Asahiyama zoo in Hokkaido sounds like a great zoo and in Japan Hokkaido would be the best place for a natural zoo where the animals habits and behavior can match those of being in the wild and nature itself.

"Asahiyama Zoo started to design its facilities so that the animal’s habits and behavior can be seen as well."

Does this mean that the animal is actually able to behave more naturally and live well, too? The Higashiyama Koen Zoo here literally made a friend of mine cry because the conditions were so apalling. She showed me the pictures and I could not believe that there are still such zoos in this day and age. The Japanese we were at dinner with didn't know what we were talking about and said it was a normal zoo.

Hopefully this zoo is setting an example.
